Elif M K was our tour guide & she was absolutely fantastic; though the food was diverse and tasty, the real magic in Elif’s tour was her unwrapping of this complex city’s history and communities. We saw places on this tour we would never have found on our own, and we felt that we had our bearings on a part of the city by the end. She was entirely professional, friendly, punctual, genuine, experienced, and generous with her knowledge (and answering our many questions about education, religion, culture). Great way to sample Turkish cuisine in local neighbourhoods

We met Oguzhan in Taksim square and we went for some fresh simit. We were blessed with beautiful weather and it was so pleasant to sip on Turkish tea during the ferry ride from the Europe side to the Asian side. During the journey over the Bosphorus, Oguzhan identified some key buildings on the shoreline and explained their history us. We explored Karaköy together and tried a variety of foods. Oguzhan did a good job of including surprises with the meals and pushing us to try new things. At one point when it rained, we took refuge in a cafe with Turkish coffee. Oguzhan showed us some tricks to read our fortunes. Overall, this tour was a good balance between trying established Turkish restaurants and smaller local places and dishes. Not only did we learn about the foods we were eating, but it was interesting to learn about the history and the modern culture of the neighbourhoods we were walking through. It was a good way to go see another part of the city that is less well known to tourists and Oguzhan was a fantastic guide who made it an excellent experience. I would definitely recommend this tour to others that are visiting Istanbul.

Our guide was very good and we were pleased to have her lead us. The price is high compared to other Istanbul tours from Viator. The food part was OK, but not great. Ice cream at 10 o'clock in the morning isn't for everybody and Turkish coffee is very strong as you are warned. Suggest low sugar not medium sugar. Medium sugar is too sweet.

Delicious food and great way to experience the city.

We did this tour as a family, with Nesli who was wonderful - funny, considerate and bubbling with information to share about the culture, customs, history and of course, food. Each one of the tastings she had curated was unique and stuff that we would have never come across by ourselves. Travelling by ferry, the tram and the tunel to Istiklal Street, crossing over Galata bridge at sunset, were all great experiences. There is a fair bit of walking involved; my mom had some unexpected issues but Nesli improvised beautifully and went out of her way to help us and still give us a great time. I loved walking through the bylanes of Istiklal street, discovering where locals hang out for coffee and food, again something we may not have done by ourselves. The tour ended in the Spice Market, where again Nesli guided us on how to pick genuine products, delicacies etc. We came away with a deeper appreciation of Turkish culture and having made a new friend.

Itach our guide was excellent but communication between Viator and Karavan Travels was not good

Viator contracts with Karavan Travels which in turn contracts it out to multiple subcontractors. The communication between Viator, Karavan Travels and the agency which actually takes you on the tour is very poor. Karavan never communicated where the meeting place was and when Viator informs you of the meeting place, the actual person who takes you around is never told where to pick you up.

Such an interesting tour! Really well thought-out and very smoothly executed. We were really well looked after from start to finish and our guide was really entertaining and fantastically knowledgeable. Lovely tour with Kursat that covered both the European and Asian sides of Istanbul. It was pretty special to step off a boat into another continent. I still daydream about the stuffed mussel with lemon and the stuffed eggplant dolma.

This was a great tour. Our guide, Tanor, did a wonderful job. Not only did we taste a lot of different street foods, we went to several areas of the city to do tastings. We experienced several of the city's transportation options and went into neighborhoods we would not have known to explore on our own. We went to some neighborhoods that were primarily residential and experienced more of what the families there might eat on the street. We also went to a business district and tried what a business person might grab on the street for lunch. Finally, we tried "wet burgers." This is a bit like a chopped beef sandwich that has been smothered in BBQ sauce on the inside and outside. It was actually good. I would recommend this tour as a great way to see the city while tasting great food. Also, we went to the most famous baklava place in Turkey. They must have had 50 different kinds of baklava.
