Great intro into understanding Sufism

Small museum you can view prior to entry helping you understand the experience. Very hot and extremely cramped inside. Great experience overall, but not good for those w back problems, social anxiety, and/or low heat tolerance.

Don’t miss this performance if you come to Istanbul.

The whirling dervish show was first class, from the venue to the music to the performers to the informational panels in the waiting area. I can highly recommend this show as well as the folkloric dance and music show offered at the same venue although apparently not available through Viator.

Interesting ceremony to witness. I recommend this to those who are interested in other cultures and their religious practices.

Overpriced

Really a price for what it was. I’ve seen this before in a small town where it was authentic. This is the Istanbul Hollywood version which is fine but you shouldn’t charge as much for it lasts for less than an hour if even

It was a great experience...

It was a great experience to learn about the Philosophy of Rumi i.e. To be perfect needs to abandon all known positive and negative feelings, beliefs, actions and habits, briefly, to reject being a human and to accept an unrecognized and unknown consciousness, formation, existence, and essence which is different from the ego.

Whirling indeed

OK experience. The room was very cold and it was hard to sit. The dervishes whirled and whirled, and then left. Do not expect variation. The best part: little coffee shop next door and the spice gift shop at the exit.

Terrible
Asil_A
, Feb 2022
Many of the audience fell asleep !! Because it was so boring and monotonous. It wasn’t engaging or interesting . I’ve watched Egyptian dervish shows on TV that were more fun to watch . I expected so much more for 30 euros . It was far too expensive and heavily marketed.

Not a regular show

Please don’t book thing expecting an entertaining show. This is a spiritual event that you get to witness. The entire show was very slow and somber.

This was a simple clear exposition and explanation of a profound and deeply spiritual practice. It allowed the ceremony to speak for itself with minimal but clear written support. I found it deeply moving.

The dance performed by the five men was very impressive. I was amazed to see the concentration that each of them showed dancing around in the same spot.

Peaceful
Fatma_A
, Oct 2021
The show was very spiritual for me. though I did not understand the praise sung, the music was peaceful and the whirling dervishes were moving with such grace it was almost hypnotic and relaxing. One particular dervish , the eldest of the group with a white beard had his eyes closed and was smiling all the time in complete peace. I was watching him all the time and wished I could reach such a state of mind. If you go with someone, make sure you go with like minded people, someone who appreciates the serenity and peace. You could hear a pin drop in the hall because the audience was so silent. Oh and no photography allowed. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Interesting show. The men who perform are talented. I would have liked a better explanation of the belief and how it relates to Islam as a whole. Worth a viewing.

This is a wonderful cultural experience. A video screen translates Q’ran verses. If you have been traveling and book within same 24 hours of arrival, you might fall asleep. It is somber music and the dervishes can put you in a sleepy trance.

Short and sweet with a quick introduction. Informative with an intimate setting. From God we receive, to humanity we give’.
