Grand Central Terminal - great winter outing day trip

Traveling through Grand Central has always been a via point to get to our main NYC destination. This was a great winter outing day trip with Grand Central Terminal as THE destination for the day. The tour guide did a great job highlighting the history and grandeur of the building (complete with photos), Jackie Kennedy’s preservation efforts which led to national landmark case law, and the Whispering Gallery, where you can stand in opposite corners of the space and talk to someone on the other side and only they can hear you because of the architectural design. The chandeliers and light fixtures could be a tour unto themselves! Great tour, thank you Viator.

Appreciated learning not only about the terminal as a whole - but also smaller components of the building like the iconic clock faces, window walkways, whispering arches, celestial ceiling, chandeliers, etc. as well as its and the area’s history. I am now more alert to what is there when I pass through, actually try to stop and look.

It took 3 Yrs to finally book this tour as it’s only offered on Saturday’s only to find it disappointing. You needed to be near the tour guide to hear what was being said. There were to many people on the tour that does not allow everyone get close enough to the tour guide for that, so you miss on what’s is being said due to the terminal noise and announcements. This tour should not have more that eight people. So, I would not recommend this tour to anyone.

Grand Central Terminal is a wonderful place, a space full of energy and movement. The tour group was large, about 14-people, and the information and places we saw were great. Sadly the delivery of that information by our tour guide left more than something to be desired. But our group of five friends enjoyed our day in spite of the guide's shortcomings.
